The volcano looms over the little town of Bajawa and its upper slopes are bare without any vegetation. 🌄🌿 Indonesians call these villages with a term "Kampung Adat", which translates to "traditional village" in English. That signifies the commitment to preserve indigenous cultural heritage and traditional way of life. 🌺 In these villages, you will find traditional houses built with local materials, showcasing the distinct architectural style of the region. For two transformative weeks, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the vibrant life of Kampung Adat Bena and Kampung Adat Belaraghi, living with a welcoming local family and fully participating in their daily activities. I was embraced as one of their own, sleeping on the humble floor of their traditional house. 💤🏡 One of the highlights of my journey was embarking on a challenging hike up Mount Inerie. It took about 3.5 hours, and with the guidance of a local man, I conquered it, albeit with the mishap of tearing my pants along the way.
