Progress on the garden continues. I've added the start of two raised beds, and continued work on the onion bed. My next step will be to start a defensive parameter bed around the entire edge edge closest to my neighbor. The defensive bed will be 12ish inches long, and by spring will encircle the entire first year 'lobe' of the garden. The bed will feature 3 rows of defensive plants spaced 4ish inches apart. During the spring, summer and fall months. After this first winter, the defensive plants will be left until spring to reseed themselves and continue deterring pests. 1. Aromatic purple opal basil (hated by pretty much all plant predators) that will release the smell of tasty human food and nasty deer food to the surrounding area. 2. A layer of edible (to people) flowers that are disliked by common ground animals. Marigolds, violas, pansies, etc. 3. A short dense layer of dwarf spicy globe basil. Tasty to humans, extremely nasty to pests. Most animals will take one bite and keep moving.
