This method is really good for being able to capture like thigh area up to your chest (see second photo for example), and allows your body to really take up the full photo as opposed to if you took the photo in a mirror.
The pro-tip here is to turn the phone upsidedown when you take the photo so it's easier to hit the shutter button with one hand and also keeps your arm out of the shot
