She walks there, with ebon hair And dark eyes all aglow Autumn maiden, sorrow laden By the ticking clock, By restless herds and south-bound birds All leaving by the flock. Bitter cold soon will hold Dominion over all. It's icy hand will grip the land And cast away the Fall. And so, she weeps while Winter sweeps Under snow so pure and white But he too will have his due When Spring sets things a'right. Then Spring fades as Summer bade, And Summer, too, is slain. The rain and heat will taste defeat When Autumn comes again
