April vs Alere...These tournaments were always brutal. Once I got past my first year, I was always in the finals, which was very flattering, but they were hard shows. Rushed, exhausting, and little or no time to go over anything between the many matches.
The tourny shows were long days, too. Sometimes the crowds are "wrestling weary" by the time we hit the finals...or they've left because it's late.
By contrast, in Germany for German Stampede Wrestling (and I believe a fed I worked for did this in England, too), they broke up the finals and scheduled that on a separate show, giving time to hype the hell out of it. They spent the money to bring me back over to wrestle Wesna for the title in the finals and gave it a month or two to really push it. We had an amazing, hot crowd for that show.
No one has ever accused (most) wrestling promoters of being rocket scientists. ;) Cheap as fuck...yes. Often and with monotonous regularity.
I do miss traveling outside of the states on someone else's dime. That was one of the best deal with wrestling...seeing the world and not having to pay for it. There's a reason they say travel is the best education one can get. It's true. It's always entertaining to me to see Americans arguing healthcare and comparing it to other systems when they've never left this country (or if they have, it's been on a cruise to a resort...lol) and never used any other healthcare system. You can ONLY have an opinion through experience or real education. Not what's spoon-fed to us.
I'm supposed to be in UAE this summer for the first time for UWN Dubai through one of the British feds that I used to work with on a regular basis. I believe Aron Steven is going as well and there are several more of us going over to the training center for the shows. I am limited due to injuries, but I know how the make the most of being ringside. #shenanigans
If you're in that area around June/July, check back with me.
Xo!
