Rallycross as a discipline was born in 1967 when Robert Reed, a producer of the British television programme "World of Sport", came up with the idea of organising a show on the Lydden Hill circuit, a circuit located between Canterbury and Dover in Kent, England, with the aim of pitting different rally drivers against each other.
