MAINTAIN 360 VIGILANCE Now that is something I heard nonstop in the Military, whether it was on the ship’s 1MC intercom, radio transmissions, or before a mission briefing. Maintaining 360-degree awareness is shortened to “keep your head on a swivel” which I’m sure you’ve heard before in movies. Avoid fixating on just one direction or point of focus. Instead, strive to maintain a 360-degree awareness of your surroundings. When you’re walking down the sidewalk, look left, look right, look left, look behind, and repeat. Again, it’s not like you’re shaking your head back and forth nonstop. Just every couple seconds notice who’s around you, what’s around you, etc. Use your peripheral vision to stay aware of what's happening in your immediate vicinity, even while focusing on a particular task or conversation. This can also be a part of another key point of situational awareness of scanning the environment. Start by looking at the immediate area in front and gradually expand your focus to include the entire surroundings. Pay attention to any unusual or out-of-place objects, vehicles, or individuals that may catch your attention. This proactive scanning helps you identify potential threats or dangers before they become immediate concerns. -Defensive Tactics
