The day Amy has been dreading finally came. Her root canal appointment! She turned up late and was ushered into the dark grey dental chair. A blue plastic disposable bib was tied around her neck and the dentist numbed her up with multiple painful injections. No more words were exchanged and the dentist placed a tight, black latex dam around her lower molar. He rose the chair to let the numbing kick in and left the room, leaving Amy sitting in anticipation, staring at all of the open tools left out on the tray. She has a long time in the chair ahead to her, and she knows it.

Palatal injections are amongst the most painful you can receive in dentistry. Very unpleasant for patients. One way of ensuring a less painful injection is applying pressure to the site for around 30 seconds before injecting, as seen here.
