I'm going to vent for a few seconds....So today we found out that our school district will not be giving annual salary increases for the school year. This is the second year in a row. Not only that, but health insurance premiums were raised. What happened to Biden's sales pitch pre-election "Teachers deserve 'a raise, not just praise!" amongst other unkept promises? What happened to "First Teacher" Jill Biden? I know going political on here is a bad idea but fuck it. I know, some will say Covid, Covid, Covid...Keep in mind, since Covid started, teachers have had to learn yet another platform, teaching online. Some of us that returned to the classroom had to not only teach live but also cater to those families that kept their kids home and opted for remote learning. That meant focusing your attention from live students to those on the computer. Health insurance is $1450 per MONTH this year! The cost of everything has gone up! I know my particular issue is with my school district, but it seems that it's a common theme across the nation. Being a teacher is really not worth it anymore. I have a Master's Degree and teach because I enjoy it, but that can't continue at this rate. Every year additional responsibilities are added. Most of us continue to communicate with parents via a special app well past dark (required in my district). Yes, we get student holidays off. Don't forget that we spend a good majority of that time planning for the next year, participating in countless trainings, answering questions that new parents coming into our classrooms have etc. Buying classroom items with our own money. (Some of you have helped me with this through my WishList this year!) I can't imagine being a single mom on a teacher salary. It's impossible this year w/o some form of help or like I'm doing, supplementing my income with OF. I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for your support and kind words every day! No that's not me in the photo, just a random teacher in Florida probably a little creeped out because Biden won't release her hand lol .....steps down from soap box...
