How sponsorships work and what the fighters don’t see..
I’m Thailand there is structures and unwritten rules in place with these scenarios.
If you want your hands wrapped on the day of the fight it costs you money. Usually a 500baht tip for doing your hands and another tip for the cornering And representation. On top of this there is a gym % fee.
If the coach takes time away from his life to come to your fight, you pay all his expenses, hotel, taxi and food. I covered everything for the Thais when they come to Bangkok with me. Snacks, taxis everything.
Your realise this is a fighting buisness and it’s not just about you.
I do the travel and cornering for free for our guys, I support the fighters in my gym and want them to have as much money as possible, but it still takes its toll. I charge our pros 30% of their fight purse, and if they fight on my own promotion I don’t charge them anything. They mainly fight on my own show.
What I give them back is free training and management, free accommodation and free food. Their 30% is a small fight purse but it shows they acknowledge and support what the gym does for them.
