Happy New Year ✨️🌕✨️ The start of the new year is time for renewal, reflection, and for setting intention. I'll be honest...it's a rare thing for me to pick up an actual book (with not a single picture in its pages!), but if it's about history or mythology...I'm all in! Especially when it's written by the brilliant and prolific storyteller Neil Gaiman. It feels seasonally appropriate with the cold wind and ice outside my door to pick up 'Norse Mythology,' a retelling of the centuries old stories of the Nordic gods. Reading the tales of distant ancestors, passed down over the ages by mouth, some scarce writings, and long forgotten engravings makes me feel more connected to our roots. Who were the first people to tell these stories? Who was Odin or Thor or Freya to the early people of Scandinavia? Just divine concepts or maybe real life individuals immortalized and ascended to godhood through shared and celebrated folklore? Was Thor really a big dumb himbo, and would he think I was cute? The mysteries of our history are keeping me cozy this winter 🔥

Black & Yellow 🖤⭐️ Did you know...Quentin Tarantino's 'Kill Bill' (my personal favorite films of all time) was inspired by the 1973 film 'Lady Snowblood' (based off a comic book series of the same name)? Both feature deadly women hellbent on vengeance, samurai swords, and fight scenes that continue to captivate me year after year. I honestly feel that the day I first watched 'Kill Bill' was the day I left my childhood behind and fully embraced my destiny to be a huge fucking nerd. I love these works so much ❤️🔥

In my lane, on my couch, finding communion with a problematic and fictional female assassin 💋💅✨️ Elektra is a controversial character in the MCU, but I continue to add her stories to my collection. Something about a rage-filled woman with super human abilities just keeps my attention. Especially when artists like Frank Miller and Yoshitaka Amano illustrate her beauty and bloody path to hell and back. It's a matter of perspective 🌌 When I was little, I wanted to be like the gorgeous, badass women I idolized in movies and comic books. I would draw my own heroines, and write stories about how they came to into their power (with lots of epic battles and skin tight costumes to boot). Years later I can confidently say I am a badass female character in my own life (but it would be cooler if I could fly or whatever) 🦸♀️

Up🔺️ or down🔻? Life's full of tough choices, but I think there's more fun in finding the balance. When I was younger, I tried so hard to define myself and the world around me. Now I try to let myself be, and go with what feels true in the moment. Who says I can't change my mind and take a different path? I think being stuck in one dimension sounds boring. I'm down to try anything once (no promises I'll like it though 😋). I think moving to NYC was the biggest risk I ever took, and maybe one of the best decisions I ever made for myself. What bold choices have you made for yourself?

Nothing wrong with a little ✨️glamour✨️moment. Especially for dinner and a show 🌟 Listen, I might spend most of my time in athleisure or dressed for work, but that doesn't mean I don't clean up on occasion! I love to remind myself I can be a poised, polished, princess (if only for a couple hours 😁). There is something magical and timeless about the ritual of beautification. Being able to transform yourself from a couch gremlin to a lady takes time and practice. It makes me think about the history of femininity, and the way women have adorned themselves with makeup, jewels, and beautiful clothes for centuries...until my feet start hurting, and then I'm ready for sweatpants and a messy bun 😂 Do you like the dolled up look? I promise I'll turn back into a pumpkin before too long ✨️
