The camel pose or “ Ustrasana” is a great pose to counteract slouching or sitting all day. It relieves lower back pain with a generous, heart-opening stretch. A tip for this one is to really try and lengthen your torso before you arch into the pose. This ensures that the neck and lower back don’t take the brunt of the stretch.

If you sit a lot, it’s very important that you focus and work on opening up your hips. A great pose for this is the frog pose! It can be quite intense so make sure to warm up a little before trying it. It is a deep stretch for your inner thigh and I know you will feel amazing after trying it. I stay in this pose for 1-2 minutes and try to go a bit deeper with each breath. Give it a try!

This pose has a few names, in yoga we call it the “skandasana” pose. You might know it as a side lunge or a Cossack squat. Either way it is a challenging pose that is sure to build up your strength and mobility. A good way to ease into this pose is to hold onto a chair or something to give you some stability and take the pressure off your heels. Let me know if you want some more tips.

It can be done on your hands or forearms, or with your knees down to make it very beginner friendly, Hold this position for 30 seconds to a minute and you will strengthen your abdominals, wrists, arms, shoulders, core, glutes and even your legs.

I always try and challenge myself with different forms of exercise and activities. Today, I took on the Murph challenge. It is a CrossFit challenge that combines running with pull ups, push ups, and squats. It was really tough and took me just over an hour to complete but I’m feeling super accomplished after it! The lunge is one of the best poses as it targets a variety of muscles and can be altered to make it more challenging if needed. This is a variation of the "lizard pose" with a twist to open up your torso. It feels amazing for the hips and spine, and by resting your back knee on your mat you can really sink into it as much as you'd like. Give it a try!

I have spoken before about the importance of hip opening movements, and this is a great one! It is called the "pigeon pose" and it is great for your hips and glutes! It is a good antidote to sitting for long periods. It prepares you for seated postures and backbends. It can also be modified to suit your comfort levels. You can keep your back leg at a 90 degree angle, like I do in this picture, or extend it out straight behind you for a deeper stretch. Send me a message and let me know how this one goes!

To complete it you inhale deeply while curving your lower back and bringing your head up, tilting your pelvis up like a "cow." Exhale deeply and bring your abdomen in, arching your spine and bringing your head and pelvis down like a "cat." This is the cow position below!. Give it a try!

When I stretch or do any sort of yoga the first thing I focus on is my back and spine. It's so important to keep it mobile and feeling good. One of my favorite movements for that is called "cat cow". I talked previously about the "bird dog" pose. This is a variation of that, which is done on your back. This takes some of the pressure off your knees and lets you really focus on your full body connection from your toes up to your finger tips. Remember to keep your core tight and your back flat on your mat. Alternate opposite arm and leg for 10-15 reps. Message me if you want some pointers or advice ;)

Hey gang,
This is called the "lizard" pose. This is a great yoga pose if you sit a lot during the day. It opens up your hips and strengthens your hamstrings, glutes, and the spine. It can also be modified to make it a little bit easier! If you cannot lean on your forearms then come up onto your hands. This way you can still get all the benefits from the stretch and slowly progress to your forearms. I would recommend to hold this position for at least 60 seconds and make sure to get the other side too! DM me if you want some tips ;)

This is the “supine pigeon” pose or lying figure four position. It has a few names but the benefits are great. You lie on your back and cross your ankle across your knee. Reach through and grab the shin and pull your leg into your body. Stretches the hamstrings and quadriceps. If the elbow is used to push the thigh, it opens the hips as well.

Hope you're having a good day. I love chatting with you. I have spoken before about loose hips, and this is one of my favorite poses to achieve that! This is called the lizard pose. Lizard Pose is a great way to stretch your hamstrings and quads too. Strengthening these muscle groups will help you maintain a full range of motion and prevent injury both in your yoga practice and your everyday life. Strength in your hips and hamstrings, in particular, can improve your balance and flexibility. Give it a go!
